Basic Candle Making

There are various steps involved in candle making. The first step in candle making is boiling the block of wax. The wax has to be boiled in a double boiler. Boiling wax on direct flames will invite many problems. The wax has a flash point of 390 oF. At this temperature it produces fumes and catches fire.

To avoid these problems associated with candle making, the double boilers are used. The water inside the boiler boils at 212 oF, and it will let the wax melt at a comfortable 200oF without causing any problems to you or your surroundings.

Candle making involves a lot of meticulous and creative effort. Even in the selection of molds, the creativity of the designer plays an important role. The molds can be designed yourself from a used metal container, a paper cup, or any fascinating article like that. The basic principle of candle making remains the same, however.

Candle making is not complete without applying a color and scent to the candle; they have to be added along with the wax in correct proportion. The selection of colors and the scents too depend on the nature and taste of the artist.
