Candles have been used for ages together. So many new things have come up but nothing could replace candle. It is still used in wide variety. Candles are used for providing light and while offering prayer to God and many more.

The candle making process is very old and the process of making candles differed from country to country. During ancient times the candles were made from the solid fat extracted from the animal mostly from sheep and goats called as Tallow. The candle was the main source of light during those days.

Earlier the candles were made by using a long rod called broach on which several wicks were suspended. The melted Tallow was poured in the container. The wick was immersed in the container three times and then hung to dry. After this the candles were repeatedly immersed to get the required thickness.

But in the middle ages the use of the candles widened and people used candles for worshipping.  Then these candles were manufactured from beeswax especially for rituals. The Roman people used to simply put the molten bees wax over a wick material to prepare candles. The practice of using molds for making candles came at very later stage during the 15th century in France. The people of France used hollow open-ended cylinders which had a cap with a small hole meant for wick.
